Today's scenery is totally a land of sunflower growing on both sides of the road up to the hill slopes. And indeed beautiful to see all the yellow flowers facing on one direction toward the sun.I don't know much abt the use of sunflower except the oil extracted from the seed for cooking.Do anyone knows abt other uses? There is a vast different in roadside sceneries in Kyrgyzstan compared to China. The mountains have more greengrass as desert bared land in china. The wind here is very friendly as sandstorm in china. The people are more friendlier ,waved and hello often invite you to a tea or watermelons. The houses here are more clean and hygine. The road M41 from Osh to Bishkek is known to be the best road in Kyrgyzstan but still can't compared to China 's super Xpressway. 6km to Jalaabad at the Gate Tower ,we had the opportunity to take a picture with a married couple and were offered chocolate, cakes ,wine. We rode in to the town, before getting down to look for stay.A Muslim lady named Sanam, insisted so much that we must stay with her family. She took a cab while we cycled almost in the dark to her village only to know that was 12 km from town. The cab drop her at the junction and we push for 20min to her house. We were treated with hot coffee with cow milk, rice ,bread ,open bath under moonlight and a nice warm bed. And my very first experience on how to milk a cow!

Mr Meng, here is the answer extracted from Internet for your question about sunflower use. As u have little time to browse around, hope u find it useful. As you are getting to the countrysides of Western Asia and Eastern Europe, there will be more sunflowers!!!

-Sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) is one of the few crop species that originated in North America
-the seeds as an oil crop, a birdseed crop, and as a human snack food.
-Commercially available sunflower varieties contain from 39 to 49% oil in the seed.
-Sunflower accounts for about 14% of the world production of seed oils. Europe and the USSR produce over 60% of the world's sunflowers.
-sunflower oils for frying purposes, tends to enhance shelf life of snacks, and could be used as an ingredient of infant formulas requiring stability.
-Non-dehulled or partly dehulled sunflower meal has been substituted successfully for soybean meal in isonitrogenous (equal protein) diets for ruminant animals, as well as for swine and poultry feeding.

-It has been used in certain paints, varnishes and plastics.
-sunflower oil is used commonly in the manufacture of soaps and detergents.
-The use of sunflower oil (and other vegetable oils) as a pesticide carrier, and in the production of agrichemicals, surfactants, adhesives, plastics, fabric softeners, lubricants and coatings has been explored.

-Sunflower oil contains 93% of the energy of US Number 2 diesel fuel (octane rating of 37), and considerable work has been done to explore the potential of sunflower as an alternate fuel source in diesel engines.

-Sunflower can also be used as a silage (feed for livestock )crop.
