Morning 8.30am rode out of Jiayuquan town.Weather is good,no wind,no rain ,no dust and sunny day. We passed by the Fortress which Heather visited yesterday. Once out of the town , there is a vast flatland with snowcapped mountain on our left and a not so high mountain on our right on bothsides of road. It is climbing gradually continues from the previous ride and reaches 2171 m at 64 km mark. The temp also hit the max at 39 degree C but surprisingly I don't sweat like in Malaysia.Lunch had lamb noodles soup in Yumen for 4 rmb . After lunch we enjoy our best uninterrupted downhill so far which lasted for 20 km . And a 10 km of flat country road, passing villages and greenery crop fields before we reached ChiqinZhen to stay in a newly renovated guesthouse for 20 rmb each. Surprisingly ,there is an internet in this very small village town.

Brater Meng, Glad to know that you are doing fine, Great indeed. To accomplish the Journey, it should not be a problem based on the current "Form" and the "Rate" you are going. Consistency Counts. Thanks for updating all the latest photos. Cheers from TTKs.

Hi Meng,
Now I can see your photos and write-up. You were right saying my pc might be the problem. We all want to see you reach Paris safely or come back safely even if it means aborting the adventure mid way, penniless for the sake of saving your life. Nothing to be ashamed of. There are thugs along the way preying on people like you. They are after your valuables like cameras, money, watches anything you have and don't give a damn thing about lives. When you are in Krygystan, be more alert and careful. I worked in neighbouring country Uzbekistan before for two years so I know how some of these people thinking. This is not negative thinking. If possible, go to Uzbekistan as there is Malaysian Embassy in the capital Tashkent and some Malaysian businesses there. They will be very very surprised to learn you cycle there and give you a sumptious dinner. Life is precious. As long as you are alive, you can always try again.

What a party pooper!. Sure there are thugs everywhere. A lot in KL, PJ, JB some even in uniforms blowing up Mongolian models.

Meng is a grown man, If there's fear of being robbed, might as well stay at home and watch astro. Sure there are risks everywhere, as a cycle tourist my greatest fear is mechanical breakdowns or dirrhoea.

Do good and good will come unto you!

Hi,Ah Meng, it is nice to see the Picture, but be careful, since you travel now deeper into the World and Land, you will meet with People there may not thinking your way.It don't matter if you need to breakup half way.A few items is enough to make Crooks happy.
Take care.Horst

Yes, pack everything up and come home ASAP...

Better still buy a machine gun and mount it in front of your crank. What lah? Some very 'optimistic'
supporters here.

I wonder what Heather thinks of some Malaysia mahu boleh tetapi kedekut dan takut selaki....atau mesti jalan jalan macham Team Petronas dengan police escorts...bayar sahaja.

Hi Meng,
It is interesting to know somone disagrees with what I said and that makes my life even more interesting. Meng, you are in foreign lands so you are a foreigner. Chances are when you are robbed, attacked or ambushed usually in very remote places (since you are cycling cross country) you have nobody to turn to, to go forward or retreat? nearest police station how far away? 5km or 50km or 100km ? You speak their language? YOU ARE IN STRANGE LAND. These are the weaknesses of foreigners on adventure trips that's why thugs prey on those who are careless, do not heed advice and take no precautions. I climbed Mt Kinabalu, Gunung Tahan, Gunung Yong Belar, Gunung Ledang and I came back safely each climb. In climbing mountains, there are risks of you losing your way when you are slow and far behind, whole body shivering all night until dawn, leeches sucking your buttock, tree branches falling on you while you camp, you fall and injure yourself as you walk on slippery moss-surface rocks when crossing rivers. Worst still, you may be washed away by strong current. All these did not happen on me. Why? Because I heeded the advice of mountain guides and experienced climbers. So they are life savers, not party poopers.

Some more sage doomsday advice. Think the worst, expect the worst and the worst might just happen.

Anyone contemplating a journey of this magnitude will already know of the risks involved. More constant reminders needed?

Think positive, pray even and Paris IS (not no or maybe) on the horizon.

With regards to mountains, my 'negatives' from Kilimanjaro, Everest & Annapurna Base Camps were merely fatigue. Normal.

Other climbers with thoughts of AMS, dirrhoea, sunburn, ligament problems, Maoist rebels demanding $$$ etc more or less got their fears granted.
