As Astrakhan is only 61km , we started rather late at 9.30am . Oh! no ,it should be 8.30am as Russian time is one hour later compared to Kazakhstan. My impression of Russia is, the road is very well maintain even in this remote countryside. No potholes, rough surface , absolutely a delight for every cyclists, greeneries with lots of rivers. How I wish I have the time to sit down by the riverside and enjoy fishing the whole day. We rode into Astrakhan at 4.30pm quite easily as the signborad is very clear but having a tough time finding a reasonable price hotel .Victoria Palas is 270 euro a nite .Heather can't afford, neither do I.The 2nd is Azimut hotel for 100usd , kiv first, tried to look for cheaper one ,found 2 but fully occupied and another one but only cater for central Asia countries of fromer Soviet Union. We both gave up and finally settled for Azimut. Astrakhan not a place for backpackers.
